My name is Filippa Leijonhufvud-Reading.
I was born and raised in a small town called Sala, in Sweden. My mom worked as a school nurse until she retired and my dad was an architect (he passed away 1989) I have 2 sisters. I’m the youngest ;o)
When I was 16 years old my dad got a job with SIDA, as an architect in Bostwana, Africa. I went to boarding school, and went to visit my parents as often as I could. Loved Botswana! It was such an adventure!
At age 18 I went to San Fransisco, as an au-pair, for one year. Loved my au-pair Family and to this day we stay in contact from time to time. After that, I moved to Stockholm, and worked at various places i.e. Smuggler (restaurant), Modern Museum, Swedish Television (make-up department), Hotel Amaranten…this is what comes to mind…
Then I decided to continue my education and got into a school in Ostersund, in northern Sweden. Stayed there for 2 years, and felt like I wanted to see more of the world.
Got a job on a Norwegian Cruise line called Royal Viking Line, as a Stewardess. At that time there were only Scandinavian stewardesses, and the largest ship took about 850 passengers! We thought that was a big…The ship took me around the world for 5 years.
In between my contracts, on the ship, I decided to become a massage therapist and went to Axelsson’s Gymnastiska Institut in Stockholm, and got certified.
Met my husband on the ship! He was working as a Stage Manager. We moved to Los Angeles, CA and stayed there for a little over 5 years…After going through the Rodney King beating, mudslides, fires, OJ Simpson trail, and the Northridge Earthquake – I said: Time to move!
Since my husband was still dealing with Cruise Lines it was natural to move to Florida. Where many cruise lines are located. Plus, non of us like the snowy winters, but like the shorts and t-shirt weather.
During the years we have added dogs to our Family. Started with a chocolate Labrador. He’s name was Marabou. A goofy, funny guy! He lived until he was 15 plus years. We adopted Molly from the Humane Society. I saw her, and totally fell in love! Molly was a mix Lab and Golden. Sooo loving and wonderful. She passed away at the age of 12ish.
Found Emma, a Australian Shepherd on line…Fell in love with her face! She was 6 months old when we got her in 2009…our latest addition is also an Australian Shepherd, born Dec 25th 2010, her name is Freja. LOVE OUR “KIDS”!
I have always been active and completed 4 full marathons and a few 1/2 marathons (don’t know how many) I love being creative and I paint oil paintings…Mostly faces of dogs…just because I love them! Love music, dancing, photography, travel, yard work…
For the past 10 years I’ve been working as a Realtor…and really enjoying it!
…and this is “My Journey”…
